John wins the prize for the best idea in hiking with kids... WALKING STICKS!! He found a few sticks, each just the right height for each girl, and I have to say they were a major hit. The girls hardly complained on our little hike and were genuinely excited to have a stick and be real hikers! People walking by would comment on their sticks, which made them feel extra special too.
Yup, ANY hike we take from here on out will include a walking stick. They were pretty magical. Hannah and I even 'shared' her stick for a little while, which was like a three-legged race but with our hands on a stick instead of our feet tied together. This was kind of like a little game too and helped us pick up the pace when we started getting sluggish.
