Wild Waters Firsts

We purchased season passes again to Wild Water Adventures this year.  Truth be told, we have really hardly used them.  I was feeling a little bad for the lack of use this morning, so I asked the girls to get on the swimsuits and grab some towels and we headed out for a few hours.

Since we weren't with friends (and subsequently, I didn't have anyone to sit and chat with) I decided to try something out of the ordinary for us.

A quick precursor... we usually do the same thing each time we go to the water park... some time in the kids area, then to the 'little bit older kid' slides, and then to the wave pool.  After that, we usually call it a day and either eat or head home.  We have followed this basic plan since we started coming last year.  Hannah has been able to break away every once in awhile to do the 'big kid' stuff... but for the most part we stick to what we can all do.

So, today I asked Claire if she wanted to go on the 'big-kid' slides.  She kind of looked at me funny and said, "yes".

Now, to go on these slides you must be able to pass some sort of swim test if you aren't yet 48".  Since Claire is nowhere near this height we headed to the swim test pool.  The lifeguard said she needed to swim across the pool and that I could be in with her.  I was a little nervous for this, but she passed on her first try and proudly accepted her wristband of power.

We first went on the family ride, which consisted of a (very) large tube and some steep falls with lots of splashing.  Of course, being the adventurous kid that she is, she LOVED it and was ready for the next adventure.  So, we headed over to the water slides she was able to ride by herself.  Those were a huge hit as well!  She went down first, ahead of me and Hannah, and when I got to the bottom with her she was a little bewildered but enthusiastically asked to go again.  We went several times... I was so proud of her!

So, to wrap it up:  Claire can now swim across a pool with no help (yay!) and loves waterslides (woo hoo!)

I think we have to head back next week to do it again :-)  I love when we hit new milestones that open up new things we can all do together as a family!

Love the "wristband of power" statement. It really holds some power to kids! How fun! :)
