This evening Hannah and I worked on her reading skills.
Now, the girl has had the ability to read for quite some time. We have worked through some of the 'Hooked on Phonics' program as well as other worksheets and the such... all to the end of her remembering what she did today and maybe yesterday but forgetting some of the previous stuff. I would get frustrated with her seeming lack of concentration, and she would get frustrated with the whole situation, so we took a bit of a break from me pushing the reading thing for the last few weeks of summer.
Enter school.
And people that have been trained to teach children reading basics. In my opinion these wonderful people should be sainted. I see how they use repetition, sight words, phonics, handwriting and make it all seem like... dare I say it... FUN for my kid.
So, back to tonight. We were having a rare lazy evening. Hannah and I were playing around with words on her white board. And she was getting it.
Really getting it. Like all the stuff we had been working on for months.
Click!
We got out the 'Bob' books, which are great for early reading. She read me five....FIVE... just by sounding out the words and using her memorized sight words
I can not tell you how excited I was for her!!! And, she is excited to do more tomorrow :)
