Toby: One Month Later

We are a full-on dog family now.  Toby has sure changed things around here.  Funny how that can happen.  Here are some things over the past month...
  • It seems like he was either ignored, neglected, or just not included in much in his previous situation because we have had to teach him how to do many things that 'normal' dogs do.  Examples would include playing fetch, laying near us to be a part of the family, and even how to eat scraps of food off the floor.  All seem like new things to him.
  • He has never jumped.  Other than his two front paws trying two times to get onto the couch, he has never jumped onto furniture or the kids, or us.  No complaints here.
  • I have never seen him do it, but when he is alone he can be destructive.  We have lost some plastic items, a straw hat, some flip flops, and three screens to boredom chewing which has led us to our very first crate...
  • Toby does very well with the crate.  I'm a believer in having the dog in the crate now.  My sanity and my yard are very happy.
  • He enjoys riding in the car, taking walks or runs (and is EXCELLENT! on the leash) and chewing on rawhide or his Kong, and does very well when he is out and about in public.
  • We are still happy with him, and love that he is becoming part of the family!

He looks like such an old soul, Whit! Glad he's such a great fit for your family and yes, kenneling is a great idea for the good of all things house and yard. :) Ella actually goes to her "bed" on command at the end of the day.

I found our rescue lab! I am hoping to hear from them soon so we can meet her and see if she is right for our family. I am glad Toby is becoming a member of your family.
