Introducing Toby

We are happy to announce that we have added a new friend to the Frank household.

Toby is a yellow lab (and we think golden retriever) mix and is seriously as sweet as can be.

We had been thinking about adding a dog to our family for a number of years, but just in the past few months decided that it was really time to start looking for one that was a good fit.

Enter the Labridor Retriever Rescue of Fresno

Once we saw the sweet labs that were available for adoption through their rescue, we were hooked.  It was just a matter of time before we found one that was right for us.  About three weeks (or so) after we filled out our application, we saw on their website that Toby was available.  He was a stray that was found in Selma and brought to the Selma animal shelter.  From there, the Lab Rescue took him in for a few weeks to determine his temperment and make sure he was healthy and well enough to find a forever home.

The vet said he is between one and two years old, and the foster homes he has been in have said that he is very calm for his age.  We went to meet him last weekend and were so impressed.  The Lab Rescue had him (as they say) 'clipped and chipped' this past week and we went to pick him up yesterday.

I am sure he will make a number of appearences here on the blog in the future, but for the time being here's our new friend, Toby.

Nicknames so far:
  • Toblerone (the candy)
  • Tobin James (the wine)
  • Tobias (as in Tobias Funke from Arrested Development)
  • Toby Flenderson (a character from The Office)
Came To Us:
  • Seemingly house trained (no accidents as of yet)
  • Not knowing any basic commands
  • Not really caring about his name, or any name... although he did answer once to 'Dog'
  • Very tired (he did have an operation this week, so I can't blame him)
  • No tendancy to take off running or anything
  • No concept of the game of fetch
  • A few random barks, but not too loud
In One Day:
  • Learned to 'sit' and lay 'down'
  • Learned his name, and mostly comes when called
  • Perked up and played a lot when he met my sister's dog Gracie
  • Fetched a few times, but doesn't get the idea of bringing the ball back to me
  • Still sleeps a lot
  • Is SO sweet with the kids, seems to be indifferent to them pulling on him or patting him
  • He seems to like his new home!
