This year Hannah developed a LOVE of football. She watched, she learned, she anticipated, she KNOWS stuff about players and teams and remembers who has played and won or lost.
One day my Dad called and Hannah answered the phone. The had a conversation for a full three minutes on who was playing that day and who won the day before. She handed me the phone and he was just laughing as he said... "Who would have guessed I would ever have an intelligent conversation with my five-year-old grandDAUGHTER about football?"
There were days that she would forego playing outside to come in and watch a game, especially the Fresno State games and more recently, the Patriots. She would have us turn it on the right channel beforehand so she wouldn't miss the beginning of the game.
When we would go to Fresno State games, she would actually sit and PAY ATTENTION for the entire game. This is no joke. She truly enjoyed every minute!
Now, I have no idea if this was a result of wanting to have something in common with John, looking for an excuse to watch more TV, or if it is a genuine love of hers... but regardless it was entertaining and odd and makes me smile to think about. I have no idea if this will continue to next season. She definitely doesn't care about watching basketball so I am thinking it is just a football thing.
Needless to say, I wouldn't be suprised if she someday became one of the sideline reporters or worked at ESPN. If nothing else, she will definitely be a football fan, and pass me up in knowledge of the game by the time she is nine :)
Happy Super Bowl day.
Hannah is rooting for the Steelers.
