Here is one of the Christmas crafts we did this year. The example of this I found was just some construction paper made into the shape of a tree. I decided that the girls would have a lot more fun decorating their own trees, so I went searching for materials we had on hand.
First I found some scrapbooking paper that I liked for the background and then some green for the tree. I cut the green into ascending 1-1/2" wide strips. I think these strips were 8-1/2", 7", 5-1/2", 4-1/4", 3-1/4", and 1-1/2". I just eyeballed my cuts, but I know some like precise measuremants. I also had some brown paper cut in a 1-1/2" square for the trunk. I gave the girls a glue stick and we decided as we went which strip was the "next smallest". It was actually a good lesson in "bigger and smaller", especially for Claire.

Once the tree was complete, we added our ornaments. I had gotten a bag-o-buttons at Michaels last year for a different project priced half-off. I pretty much dumped them out and let them choose their ornaments. Hannah was very precise in putting all the ornaments in a row on her page.

Claire's was a little more random, and I did help with the glue. The concept of "just a dab" is slightly hard to grasp.

We added one of these foil stars that I found in a package at Wal-Mart in the craft section about 20 of them were .97 cents.

Once the tree was all decorated, we of course added a little bling! Glitter is all the rage in our house.

I loved that this project was easy for the girls to do mostly by themselves, that I could tweek it to be a little more age appropriate for Claire, and they could be as creative with their decorations as they wanted.
Pretty cute, huh!
