Our First Time Back

We decided last Thursday that we did not want to spend the 100+ degree weekend sitting inside getting snippy with each other, or outside at my parent's pool baking in the sun and checking to see if we really could fry an egg on the driveway.

We decided to take a little trip over to the coast. I figured that Morro Bay always comes through with a 65 degree day just when you need it...

This was our first trip over to the Central Coast since we moved back from Paso Robles about a year and a half ago. Funny thing is that I didn't really miss much about living there until now. We checked out the neighborhood where we had lived, all was basically the same. I was reminded of the fantastic hills that I walked virtually everyday trying to lose the baby weight from my pregnancy with Claire. It was strange how recent it felt, yet I hardly think anymore about having lived there.
Anyway, Pismo was crazy busy, but we caught a beautiful sunset over the ocean on Saturday night. What is is about a sunset that just makes the whole world calm, serene, and quiet? We decided to check out Montana de Oro state park, which was a place I had heard good things about, but had never checked out when we lived there. We found the surfer beach. Seriously, the only people around were those out surfing. Hannah, Claire, John, and I spent an hour wading in and running from waves. The ocean was freezing and it was sweatshirt weather. So refreshing and fabulous. We headed over to Morro Bay for lunch, checked out some shops and took off our sweatshirts to head home. Knowing it would be over 100 before we would stop again.

At one point on the ride home, somewhere out where the 41 hits the 46 our car thermometer read 116 degrees. Oiy!

There is something about being spontaneous that I love. I want to make trips like this more often. It really wasn't that expensive. We found the cheapest AAA approved motel, chose restaurants that were cheap and kid-friendly and found activities that were free. Round-trip took only one tank of gas. The kids are getting old enough to do things like this and I am thrilled to think of more places to go, things to do, and people to see.
