Values

While reading the book, Smart Couples Finish Rich by David Bach, I came across his ideas for planning your financial life. One of the first things he suggests doing is making a list of things that you value. These are not tangible items, but instead a list of things to strive for, and whithout which we would really have no purpose.
1. Security. I value feeling secure in my home, my city, my country, as well as feeling secure with myself, my body, and financially. If I had a job at the moment, I would value feeling secure in the position I held.
2. Family. I value my children and my marriage. I value the sanctity of marriage and the Holy union it is. I value my children as individual blessings given to John and I by God, and entrusted to raise in a Christian home with proper values.
3. Health. I value the feeling of being healthy, that is a healthy weight and a healthy exercise plan. I value knowing that I am healthy by having regular doctors visits and routine lab work and physicals.
4. Fun. I value having time to spand with my extended family and close friends. I value having a full social calendar and being able to visit fun places as a family.

Another thing Mr. Bach suggests is making a list of your dreams. WIthout having dreams it is virtually impossible to have financial goals because you won't be working towards anything.
1. Traveling. I would love to visit Hawaii, the East Coast, and taking a family vacation every year to a place like Disneyland.
2. Owning a vacation home somewhere in the mountains or near to the beach.
3. Owning a large, spacious home, with a beautiful backyard, plenty of storage, and a pretty kitchen.
